WTB ambassador Brittany Greer helped host two Black Girls Do Bike this month in Lakewood, Colorado. The first event was for road biking, and the second was all about mountain biking. These free events were exclusive to the Black Girls Do Bike community. Brittany and a few others provided free bikes, professional coaching, snacks, and giveaways. The MTB event was a beginner-friendly event geared toward learning skills & drills, basic bike handling, bike/body positioning, braking, cornering, and switchbacks. They ended the day with a raffle, a talk on how to get more involved, what resources exist, and how to get more BIPOC women on bikes. The road biking event tapped in basic mechanics and nutrition. Every group learned how to; patch & change a tube, change & plug a tire, how/when to adjust their cable tension based on various shifting issues, what high/low limit screws are, and how to fix a broken chain with a quick link. These necessary skills help to encourage women to get out on their bikes with confidence that they can tackle any situation.
