Meet Ron “Dirt Ron” Pitcher: Behind the Scenes at WTB
At WTB, the passion for cycling runs deep, and few embody that spirit more than Ron Pitcher, known in the BMX freestyle world as “Dirt Ron.” As a WTB OEM Production Artist, Ron plays a vital role in ensuring our products look as good as they perform. With over seven years at WTB, he’s been a key player in everything from rim decal production to saddle artwork, helping shape the visual identity of our products.
Bringing WTB’s Designs to Life
When Ron first joined WTB, he tackled one of his biggest projects: setting up the print production machinery at the Nevada City office. This hands-on work allowed WTB to produce thousands of rim decals in-house, keeping production moving even when external vendors weren’t available. His ability to adapt and learn on the spot made a lasting impact, and he continues to influence WTB’s product designs today.
As an OEM Production Artist, Ron is responsible for the graphic design work that ensures manufacturing partners can bring WTB’s products to life. While his focus is primarily on rim decals and saddle artwork, his skills extend to product packaging and occasional illustration work—a dream job for a lifelong creative.
Why Ron Loves WTB
For Ron, WTB is more than just a cycling brand—it’s a company built by people who truly love bikes and want to make cycling more accessible to everyone. What stands out to him the most is WTB’s deep commitment to mountain bike trail advocacy and bike path development, expanding cycling access for those who rely on bikes for both adventure and transportation.
“Maintaining our natural riding spaces and getting more bike paths built helps expand cycling access, which is especially empowering for those who don’t own cars. There are few better ways to increase human happiness than to exercise outdoors.”
Keeping WTB Ahead of the Curve
When it comes to industry innovations, Ron is most excited about advancements in material science and additive manufacturing. These technologies have the potential to push cycling components to new levels of durability and performance. He believes WTB stays ahead of the game by maintaining a strong connection to core riders—listening to their needs and continuously improving designs to enhance the riding experience.
Memorable Moments at WTB: The Downieville Trail Miracle
Every great ride has a story, and one of Ron’s best memories happened at the Downieville Classic. When a teammate lost their phone on a steep, dusty, technical descent, finding it seemed impossible. But thanks to an e-bike boost and a little trail magic, they defied the odds and recovered it. “Words can’t describe how unlikely we were to find that phone—it was a true trail miracle.”
