Harlan Price wins Sikkim Stage Race

April 14th, 2009 by WTB - Europe

Wilderness Trail Bikes, Inc., a global leader in bicycle components, is proud to announce that its star endurance rider, Harlan Price, claimed victory at India’s nine-day International Khachendzonga MTB Expedition.Dodging chickens, dogs, cars and other riders through the Himalaya foothills, Price managed to build a commanding lead throughout the 18 demanding stages. Due to shoddy organizational management the race ended up being more like a season of ‘Survivor’ with food deficiencies, tent shortages and poor medical services for the first four days. “Despite those problems the race ended up being a lot of fun,” Price stated. “There were two stages a day, one an uphill and the other a descent; each being anywhere between 5- and 25-kilometers long.”Price rode an Independent Fabrications 29er with a Rocket V SLT saddle, WTB Nano Raptor front tire and a Vulpine rear tire. “As it turned out that was the perfect set up since half of the downhill’s were mixed pavement and gravel. Some of it was really rough jeep road but the Vulpine hooked up a lot better than I expected at speeds around 40 to 60 kilometers/hour. Plus it felt like butter on the climbs.”Price survived the lengthy stage race without a single flat or crash. “It’s the second long stage race in a row without a flat,” Price commented. La Ruta de los Conquistadores was the other race, where Price was the first-placed American (tenth-place overall). For more information please visit WTB.com or Price’s blog, http://boxedbee.blogspot.com/WTB, based in Mill Valley, California, has been an industry pioneer since 1982. Wilderness Trail Bikes, Inc., a global leader in bicycle components, is proud to announce a new partnership with two-time downhill world champion Fabien Barel and the Subaru-Mondraker Pro Team.

The three-person team—comprised of Barel, Florent Payet and Damien Spagnolo—performed some extensive tire testing this winter and WTB was the top choice.

The team will also be providing valuable R&D feedback to the WTB headquarters in Mill Valley, California. The team has inked a three-year contract with WTB, making this season the beginning of a long-term relationship and very constructive synergy.

“Our goal is to establish WTB Europe as a parts supplier that stands out with an American flavor, but with a European approach, and sponsoring the very best European riders is a part of our strategy,” stated Katerina Rejchrtova, WTB Europe’s CEO. “We’re really excited to work with Barel. He is a legendary athlete for not only winning world championships, but also his exceptional level of professionalism.”

The entire team will be competitive on the world cup downhill circuit and Barel will once again be a top contender at the world championships. Although Barel already holds two world titles, he’s still hungry for more. The team will be racing WTB Silverado saddles as well as a selection of downhill tires including the Dissent, Prowler and Timberwolf.

Barack Obama Supports Cycling…

January 26th, 2009 by WTB - Europe

WASHINGTON, USA – Where he stands on global issues is clear after his successful two year campaign to become the next president of the US. And after meeting with members of the US cycling advocacy association “Bikes Belong” we also know that he is a strong supporter of cycle use.Pictured here is Obama’s meeting with WTB USA President Patrick Seidler who is the driving force behind Marin County’s bicycle and pedestrian network of which the Cal Park Hill Tunnel is an important segment.Groundbreaking for the construction of this tunnel took place recently and is only a part of a plan that calls for constructing a network of bike lanes, sidewalks, and pathways.Maybe in European eyes not the biggest news, but for Americans it’s nothing short of a (biking) revolution that, as cycling advocates hope, will spread further under the Obama presidency.

WTB OEM Sales Changes….

November 13th, 2008 by WTB - Europe

Dear esteemed customers and business partners,

I am writing to announce that Jason Moeschler is being promoted from the Western Regional Technical Manager position to OEM Sales for WTB.  Jason has worked as the Western Technical Manager,  has 10 years of Pro XC racing experience (sponsored by WTB for the entire time),  and he has worked for 11 years in bicycle retail in sales and as a mechanic.  You may have recognized Jason on the cover of our 2008 catalog (picture below). Jason embodies the excitement about bikes we all share at WTB, and he is extremely qualified to fill this important position.  I hope you will welcome Jason to his new position.

Jason will be assisted by Marcus Vyvyan, who manages the Freedom brand for OEM, and has been assisting WTB OEM sales this past season. Both Jason and Marcus will report to me as I will be taking a more active role in WTB OEM sales. Jason will also be collaborating with Mark Weir on both OEM sales and product development.  Jason and Mark have been teammates for years, and Jason’s new position will give them more opportunity to work together. Our intent is to increase our focus on OEM sales and to improve service to you, our valued customers.

Current WTB OEM Sales Manager Tom DeLacy will leave WTB as of November 11, 2008. Tom has worked at WTB for over 16 years and will be greatly missed.  His contribution to WTB over the years has been incredible in sales, marketing and product development.  Tom will be working with Jason, Marcus, and me to make sure the transition is smooth for our partners.
